Flanders Red Ale from the Barrel Aged Series. 6.7% From a 650mL bomber. Bought for 7.99 poured into a pint. So I guess i'm the first to review this, dunno if that's a bad sign or just a hidden gem.
Picked this up because it being Parallel 49, lol. Havent been able to try a barrel aged beer yet so had to get my hands on this.
L: BUBBLES! They are everywhere, not just going from bottom to top but as I poured they stuck to the side and decided to stay for a wee bit. Also its a nice red color, maybe on the darker side.
S: Smell is almost candy-ish. The sugar stands out for sure. Notes of citrus and yeast.
T: It tastes like green apple candy. Not what I was expecting at all. Its got a bit of ESB type thing going on but with sweetness to balance out the bitter aftertaste. I wanna say its medium bodied, maybe on the heavier side of thin. If that makes any sense.
F: The sweetness sticks around. That being said I've used the word sweet alot. Its not sweet in a cider kind of way it't more tame than that.
OV: Ive never had a Flanders Style Red before so i don't have anything to compare it to, but I was shocked at the flavors and body type. As I thought it would be more of a Rickard's red type of deal, thicker and more malty.
That being said I'd have another especially on a warm summers day. That being said It wasn't a bad sign it wasn't up here but it wasn't quite the hidden gem I'd strike rich with.
