8oz glass at Beer Revolution YEG Oliver Square - fantastic punny name, and it makess one wonder: does this have weed in it?
This beer appears a slightly hazy (hah!), pale golden yellow colour, with a thin cap of wispy and bubbly off-white head, which leaves some decent painted lace around the glass as things slowly progress.
It smells of grainy and bready cereal malt, rye crackers, a subtle earthy yeastiness, mild pome fruity notes, and some plain leafy, herbal, and floral green hop bitters. The taste is semi-sweet, gritty and grainy pale malt, rye flour, baked red apples, ephemeral yeast, and more understated earthy, musty, and dead floral hoppiness.
The carbonation is adequate in its structurally sound frothiness, the body a decent middleweight, and generally smooth, with nothing really causing any sort of ruckus at this particular juncture. It finishes trending dry, the malt starting to bottom out.
Overall - this comes across as a well-rendered version of the style, with a touch of extra graininess to boot. Not sure what the connection to Seth Rogen is, as I am somewhat disappointed that I didn't detect any Mary Jane essences, given that it's legal and all now, y'know?
