Darker brown color, moderate head. It is a lighter beer & as such doesn't pack a huge flavor wallop - the foundation is a non-descript German malt lager, the addition of the rye is noticeable & has a friendly spice to it, enough that left me wanting more of that. It isn't a style you find very often & it is good German table drinker just wanted a little more depth.

Otto's Pub & Brewery "Roggenbier"
$2.50/10 oz. on tap at the brewery on 9 August 2017
Notes: Locally grown rye malt and Bavarian hefweizen yeast.
Look: Slightly hazy deep chestnut brown beneath a short head of creamy white that drops to a collar but leaves some nice splashes and spots behind.
Smell: Lightly sweet, dark-sugar maltiness.
Taste: Lightly sweet caramelish malt that's almost like burnt sugar with a bit of apple-like fruitiness, a hint of clove, and a touch of spiciness from the rye (or is that from the yeast?). Moderately bitter. Some caramel, fruit, and spice linger in the semi-dry finish.
Feel: Medium bodied with a moderate, gently crisp-then-smooth carbonation.
Overall: Surprisingly tasty for a beer of just 4.4% ABV. Clean and well balanced.

Had on-tap at Otto's brewpub. Poured into a pub-club mug
L: Cloudy brown pour. Thin off-white head leaves a rim of lacing.
S: Rye... spicy grains/hops.
T/F: Biscuity malts. Some good rye character, a bit spicy mixed with pine hops and evergreen. Medicinal with a mineral character. Light and watery. Overcarbonated... finish is bittersweet.
O: Just not a strong beer. Interesting style and the rye is there. Just overcarbonated and thin/watery. Nowhere near as good as their 'Zeno's Rye'. One I won't be getting again.

Light, semi-creamy head, that doesn't stick around too much. Pours a deep, murky brownish/copper color. Not at all translucent. Still lightly fizzy as well, but that ends soon enough as well. Interesting look to it this beer say the least
Smells, hmmm, it smells like sweet bread/whiskey, with hints of sweet and spice. The taste is very...intersting. I mean it is really a nice mix of, say, a spicey brown ale and a hefe. You have the sweet bannana and light mouthfeel of a hefe, but there is a interesting citursy-spice flavors and a slight chewy-ness as well. But they work so well toegther.
very good beer, it is so original that you have to try this yourself. I hope the folks at otto's make this a regular brew!

Appearance: Hazy amber golden brown tone not quite dunkel not quite hefe look in between there somewhere with a nice sized tan head forms speckled lacing. Aromatics present banana, clove, and vanilla tones along with a grassy spicy note of rye the brewmaster told me they used a hefeweizen yeast to gain all of the esters either way very nice brew. Tasty a true treat banana and clove really stand out tastier than the average hefe to me, and the spice of the rye add another perspective and layer to the flavor making this one of my favorite beers sampled at this past weekends Penn Brewfest. Soft carbonation fluffy mouthfeel medium bodied smooth very smooth. Drinkability factor is extremely high a beer that could and should be enjoyed in session, yum well done roggenbier with a creative twist.

Hazy copper colored beer topped by a creamy head. The aroma says weizen, but with a bit of an extra spicy note. The flavor is very crisp and refreshing, combining the fruitiness of a weizen with the dry spiciness of the rye. The mouthfeel is very full and yet refreshing, with a nice level of carbonation. The whole is greater than the sum of the parts with this beer, as I could easily drink several of these. Really a pleasure to drink.
