XLCR pours a hazy dark copper color, with a huge, long lasting and lacing head. Aroma is earthy, hints of dandelion, and grass. Flavor is much of the same, big "dirt" flavors, flowers, grass. Flat body and feel. Overall, pretty beer, taste cheap, rough flavors.

L: looks like a dessert snow globe as streams of rapidly rising bubbles push chunks of sediment up only to drop down as the near the surface. This is probably a sign of age of mishandling. The color is hazy copper amber under a 1" cream colored cap with fair retention
S: smells of stone fruit, melon, and biscuit
T: Stone fruit starts the flavors supported by citrus and bread crumb, finishing with a moderately assertive bitterness and slightly astringent. There is a trace of oxidation or something else that is not quite right with the flavors.
F: medium body and medium high to high carbonation
O: The chunks are off putting and the high level of carbonation washes out some of the flavors

Pours a hazy, maize color. 1/3 inch head of an off-white color. Great retention and great lacing. Smells of earthy malt, sage?, grass, floral hops, and a hint of pale malt. Fits the style of an American Pale Ale. Mouth feel is sharp and crisp, with a high carbonation level. Tastes of earthy malt, grass, floral hops, hint of rye, hint of ginger, and a hint of pale malt. Overall, good appearance, but odd;y earthy and grassy aroma and body.

This beer pours a murky red color. Foam gushes out of the bottle as soon as the cap is popped, and then fills up the glass after only a few ounces have been poured. The aroma is sweet with no hop character. The taste is sweet too, and also has nothing in terms of hop flavors or bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium-light bodied, and greatly over carbonated. My experience with Excelsior beers over the years is that they are always over carbonated, and I have to believe that they are doing it on purpose to mask the multitude of flaws that can be found in their beers. Overall, this is another bad beer from a brewery known for making bad beer.

A traditional American Pale Ale with 50 IBUs and a 14 OG. Smooth and Crisp, nearly session for the hops-tolerant folk. A slight amber hue with a floral and caramel aroma accurately suggests a reasonable level of malt to match the hop. Worth a try.

This beer is nothing special. There is a smell and taste that reminds of wen Nelson hops go wrong. Everything else is bland and oases quickly. At least there is no bad aftertaste.

12oz bottle. Poured out a clear golden color with a small, off-white head of foam. It smelled of roasted malt, caramel and citrus. Very malty with a subtle bitterness.
