Tasted from a wax-sealed bomber bottle bought at the brewery taproom.
L - Very dark and opaque but there are some mahogany and crimson highlights around the edges when the glass is stirred. Head is light brown but is low when poured and then fades away completely; no lace either.
S - Wonderful aromas of bourbon, oak and sweet stout. Chocolate, coffee, smoke and tobacco are all elements.
T - Flavors are similar to the aromas, with whiskey notes more assertive even than the malty stout notes. No hops or yeast character apparent. The impression is clean and fresh, despite the obvious whiskey-barrel aging.
F - Medium to thick body, as is appropriate for the style. Low carbonation only shows as a bit of tingle on the tongue, like an Italian Frizzante wine. Medium hops bitterness. Warming, almost hot alcohol presence.
O - This is a massive, high-alcohol beer; its bourbon presence is fresh and incredibly rich at the same time.
