Our Islay Scotch Barrel-Aged Russian Imperial Stout smolders in the glass with the intense aromas of peat, fudge, roast & ocean air. Flavors of scotch, cocoa, smoke, and vanilla engage the palate. Full bodied & brooding, enjoy now or carefully age for later.

Poured from a wax-sealed bomber bottle bought at the brewery.
L - Deep black-brown and opaque, with a thick mousse-like, creamy head, with a medium tan color.
S - Heavy aromas of oak, charred wood, smoke, and chocolate. There is a definite whiff of alcohol, but I can't say scotch jumps to mind. Still, it is an intriguing, mouth-watering combination.
T - Delicious imperial stout flavors of chocolate, roasted grain, espresso. Overlaid on them are strong, sharp, medicinal liquor flavors, smoke and oak. Knowing there is Islay scotch involved, I can guess the sharp medicinal flavor is probably from the peat, otherwise, I'd probably have taken it to be tannins from heavy oak-aging.
F - Heavy, smooth body with low carbonation. Strong bitterness may come from more than hops; roasted grains and the whiskey itself may have added to that impression. Alcohol is present in the flavor and as a slight burning at the back of the throat.
O - This is a great RIS with very prominent barrel and liquor character. I am a huge fan of Islay whiskies, which is why I grabbed this bottle, but I'm afraid its contributions come across as still a bit harsh. I wish I had bought another bottle, because it would be interesting to taste it again after giving it a few years to mellow in the bottle.
