Tasted from a 500 ml, wax-sealed bottle bought at the taproom.
L - At pour, medium brown beer tending toward amber; ruby highlights. Some chill haze when poured, but clears as it warms to become a beautiful, crystal clear, deep copper color. Off-white head starts out a finger thick, then fades to just a ring around the glass.
S - Strong bourbon whiskey aroma over top of a malty American Barleywine that includes molasses, smoke, and lightly toasted grain, along with piney and herbal hops.
T - Barleywine flavors stand out, with strong, sweet dark malts and light smoke, which are offset by strong pine and herbal hops. The bourbon whiskey is a strong presence that softens and adds complexity to the mix.
F - Medium to heavy body with moderate, creamy carbonation. There is strong, hot hops bitterness that has alcohol heat adding to it; both act together to lighten the perceived sweetness and body. Even so, there is a bit of a cloying quality to the mouthfeel, but that is not out of place in a barleywine.
O - This is a strong, complex beer with wonderful whiskey character. Another fine offering from Bravery Brewing.
