On tap at Raku Beer in Hiroshima. 5.5% ABV listed.
This Porter was clear dark brown but looked essentially black in the glass. Good beige head with excellent lacing.
Aroma & Flavor: vry dark roasted grains dominate but above average complexity for style. Light smoke and some burnt toast appear in the long lasting aftertaste.
Overall: bold for style.

a porter of remarkable quality here, more proof that the craft revolution is alive and well in japan. this is just great stuff, really deep and dark in appearance, short of black, but pushing it. the head is tall and tan, really aggressive and airy. smells like dark chocolate, bitter roasted barley, and unbrewed coffee grounds. there is a richness to this that doesnt equate to sweetness, hard to achieve in a beer like this, but theyve done it. i think a lot of that is owed to the yeast, tastes sort of english, but has a different feel to it, expansive and creamy, like a rising dough, its gorgeous with the heavy handed dark grains in the mash here, bitter and baked, with the cocoa and the coffee accents, its really really good. full bodied but expertly carbonated too, higher than the style norm, but it makes sense here in a more dense example of porter. one of the better straight up porters i have had this year, and frankly this deserves some serious attention. my only regret was not having more than one. impressive quality. hard to make a basic style so unique anymore because every brewery makes a porter you know, but this one really stands out as being fantastic. A level.

330ml bottle poured into a little hotel tumbler.

Pours ruby brown, light for a porter but dark for anything else. Small head, light beige in color. Smell is very muted -- I barely smell anything at all. After tasting it as a primer, I can detect a little bit of chocolatey sweetness, which is good, but very muted.

Taste is chocolatey. Some roasty bitterness. Very pleasant and easy to drink. Mouthfeel is light and dry. Overall, this is a quite good beer. Certainly not an extreme beer, just a good solid example of a porter.
