I approached this with caution, as "fruit beer" is not my thing. It comes in the standard brown St. Peter's flask. The label says this is basically a wheat beer with elderberries added. OK. Best before 7/7/04, I opened it on 1/7/04.
Pours a mainly clear orange-gold under a fizzy tan head that fades quickly to collar and film. The nose is very very fruity with a sap-like twang to it. The mouth is light and quite prickly. The taste really raised my eyebrows and inspired a "wow". Sure, the fruity sweetness is there, but it is backed by a wonderful hoppy bite that combines marvellously with the tangy woodiness of the berry. The finish is bitter and dry and enticing, leaving only the very slightest hint of the fruit (although a burp brought back a good fruity kick...). Great bitter aftertaste that makes me want more.
