Poured from 375mL corked & caged bottle into a tulip. Bottled 5/13/21. This beer is "aged in French brandy barrels with cherries & conditioned with honey". I'm excited!
Appearance: pinkish orange hue that is a bit of a deep salmon color, with a moderate haze and a good effervescence. Head is a finger of frothy tan foam. I like it.
Smell: quite oaky right up front with lots of vanilla character. There's a bit of sweetness and, while there's definitely a fruity character, I would not pick it up right away as cherry. I'm not carried away by it, but it is definitely interesting.
Taste: quite tart; much tarter than the aroma suggested. Once the tart lightens up there is a nice fruitiness and definitely a brandy flavor. The oakiness remains pretty strong; between the astringent oak and sour tartness, there is plenty of pucker in this beer.
Mouthfeel: medium body with a decent carbonation and creaminess.
Overall: I am a fan of cherry beers, although the cherry is somewhat low in the mix in this beer. I also enjoy brandy, which is definitely present here. I just wish there were just a little bit less sourness here. So, good, but perhaps not quite what I want it to be.
