Poured into a pint glass, the appearance was a dark brown close to black color with a sly finger’s worth of off white foamy head. Nice pace how it dissipated. Subtle stringy lace. The aroma had some roasty dried coffee beans over top of spicy earthy hops and then the piney portion opens it up a tad more. Roasty cocoa powder. The flavor touches the roasty coffee beans to the cocoa powder gently and adds a little bit of char nuanced by the earthiness. Quick roasty aftertaste. Sly dry char finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a nice sessionability about it. Mild carbonation. Piney hoppy harshness creates enough appropriate bitterness. Overall, nice black IPA that I would have again.
