This was poured into a nonic pint glass. The appearance was a muddy brown color with a slim bar pour’s kind of head that settles out within reason around the glass. So I’m expecting little lacing and little lacing did occur. The smell had a nice malty side of the rye combining subtly with the spicy side. Slight fruity malts almost English-esque absorb some of the spicy character to even make it less as it warms. The taste was malty, spicy and fruity sweet taking on a nice complex persona and running into a semi-sweet to spicy aftertaste reminiscent of an English IPA. Light sweet to spicy character in the finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a decent sessionability about it. Carbonation seems to run nice on the feel allowing the malts to cling and the spice to sharpen but both combine and feel nice. Overall, I’d say this was a pretty nice rye IPA. I see what Whetstone did and I like it.
