Appearance: Pours a clouded, deep orange color with a Large and sticky head that sits and lasts nicely. A beautiful, classic saison appearance that I don't think I could differentiate from DuPont.
Aroma: Aromas of of Belgian yeast, pepper, and coriander on the nose. Not too much citrus, but some tangerine.
Flavor: Flavor follows the nose on this with nice coriander, Belgian yeast, and pepper. Not much clove nor banana. Belgian yeast is lighter, but very balanced. On the backend there is light Belgian candy and orange sweetness. Finishes slightly citrus sweet. No hop bitterness. Less orange juice, yet slightly sweeter than I expected.
Feel: Lighter bodied and crisp. Well-carbonated. Slightly sweet on the finish, yet its light and crispy enough to not leave it on the palate. Allows it to finish incredibly smooth and clean.
Overall: This is actually a really well-done saison that seems like it is looking to follow close to DuPont. I've never heard of this brewery and this is not a well known beer. They really did well here in all aspects of this beer. It obviously isn't on DuPont's level. Less flavor, body, and the yeast strain isn't as complex. They are pretty darn close though. But for the lower ABV this is an incredibly well-rounded and tasteful saison for a lesser well-known brewery. I wouldn't be surprised if the popularity of this beer or brewery in Chicago rises markedly because of this beer. If you find this beer, definitely worth trying.
