So first off, Baltic Porters are my jam. This is like one of those, but with the extra hops of an IPA. For what they were going for, this hits the target pretty well. Of the "Dark Lager IPA," the first thing that hits you is the "Dark." Nice and malty and balanced. Then the "IPA" with the bitter aftertaste, and the "lager" crispness a few moments later. Not sure why the world needs a "dark lager IPA," but this fits the bill.

A: 3.75 - Dark, oily black color with a small, very tan head.
S: 3.5 - Bit of a faint aroma, though pleasant, with maybe some black patent malt and a little spicy hoppiness.
T: 3.75 - Flavor is really geared toward the malt, for which there is plenty--think malt along a strong schwarz rather than stout, but plenty of dark malt flavor. Bitterness is high just to make up for the strength and amount of malt, bit it's by no means IPA level. In fact, I was hoping for a lot more hop flavor, but whatever there is, it's covered up by the malt.
M: 4.5 - Really good mouthfeel, for the strength. It's substantial, but not heavy at all, very smooth.
O: 3.75 - An experimental beer that doesn't really live up to the theme, but it's still drinkable.

Black IPA and German Swartz beer Combo

A: pitch black with a really thick head. Zero clarity just as you look for in a stout.
S: while the A and M lack TE smell has a perfect balance of malt from the blackened Malta with spice and hopiness that is completely a unique experience that I love.
T: very slight burnt bitterness coupled with a nice hop fresh kick. The part that makes this a winner is the spice and very slight sweetness offered outside of the traditional BIPA. For 9% it is stupid good
M: this one sits a little heavy but at 9% you would expect that. Low carbonation.
O: not a fan of BIPA but this is the #1 out of Lakewood for me now passing up the temptress. Try irbid you can find it!
