pours a hazy paled amber-tinged gold body with an excited big-bubbled white foamed head that has moderate retention and leaves a moderate amount of sticky thick lacing as it settles to an uneven halo
aroma is big, dank, and fresh blast of orange citrus, dripping and ripe mango, and fresh breeze pine with a dash of tart apple in the wings. it's thicc, y'all
taste follows the nose nicely. it's thick, juicy, and ripe with a jolly rancher tart green apple towards the end. malt is a little honeyed, a little chewy, a little bready but almost entirely stationed to the background with hop dominating the spotlight
mouthfeel is moderately high carbonation and medium bodied that goes smooth but slightly chewy with carbo prickles before finishing slightly dry and leaving an earthy pine hop aftertaste that fades after a few moments.
overall:
this IPA is advert'd as a Double Dry Hopped IPA with Mandarina Bavaria and Azacca hops. the dry hopping really comes through with the aroma, and leads into a beautiful expression of lush and juicy hops that is hard not to swoon over.
this is my favorite utilization of "jolly rancher" effect in an IPA so far, effectively balancing the front notes while giving it a big finish. Big D energy, indeed. well done, Lakewood. hard to beat this one.
