tasty mexican lager here, to me a quality step forward for these guys, who somehow have a sterling reputation but only make good beer some of the time. not sure how they do that, but this is a real nice one, although still maybe a touch sweeter overall than i want the style to be most of the time, which is kind of their signature across a number of their more established brands. this is golden blonde and quite clear, nice shine to it, over an inch of airy and lasting white head from the tap, looks the part. nose is minimal to me, crackery dry pils type malt and a little fruitiness from an identifiable mexican lager yeast, simple but pure. the flavor shows a little richer malt, but just a little, floral honey through the back half sets up light perhaps noble hops pretty well, and i get light lime leaf, yellow corn, and cut flowers on the swallow, a little longer finish than the easiest of these have, but the flavor is solid and i dont mind it hanging around an extra second. nice ferment on this, not overly hopped or anything, very true to style overall. sparkling carbonation too. refreshing pounder for after hockey and objectively better than some of their other beers for my money...
