Name: Raspberry Blood Orange Hefeweizen
Brewery: 406 Brewing Company
Location: Manhattan, MT
Style: American Wheat Pale Ale
ABV: 5.9%
Canned: 2025
Date: 06 June 2025
The last beer I tried from 406 was surprisingly tasty. I am using a Wiezen glass and serving the beer at 44 degrees. The pour created a frothy, creamy, one-fingered, white head with above-average retention. The somewhat slow dissipation left bits of lacing on the glass. The color is amber with a deep reddish orange hue, charting at SRM 12 and hazy. The appearance of the beer is average. The fruit changed the color, I guess.
Nosing the glass, I smell wheat, raspberries, fruity sweetness, bready, malty sweetness, oranges, floral, grassy, a skosh of banana, cloves, and lemon.
Oranges, wheat, and lemon dominate the beer's flavors. Sipping it again, I notice light tart raspberries, grass, fruity sweetness, cloves, bananas, bready, malty, floral esters, and light tropical notes.
The mouthfeel is soft and finish dry. The body is medium-low and has medium carbonation.
Final Thought: This is not a bad Hefeweizen, but the fruit addition stifles the base beer. The oranges and raspberries bring more tartness to the beer than I am used to. It is an easy sipper and would make for a lovely beer to sit out in the backyard by the fire as the sun sets, chatting the night away.
