Got a half-pint of this to finish up an excellent evening at Mountain Sun. It was a perfect close - nice, deep brown color with a smallish head that dissolved quickly. Nice mix of sweet maltiness, chocolate, roastiness and a touch of coffee in with the drier hop backbone. Overall, a nice brew, although didn't bowl me over like the FYIPA did.

Dark brown color with a nice tand head. Good lacing and retention. Roasty malts, coffe, chocolate and a good amount of floral hops. Taste is similar, big malts against bitter hops. Full body passes well over the palate. Another good stout from the sun.

Jet black body with slight ruby highlights. The aroma has strong roasted coffee and some chocolate in it. The flavor is really good with a bold roasted character coupled with some cocoa and coffee. It has a fairly heavy body and good drinkability, especially for the amount of roast.

After drinking and judging, learned that the Thunderhead Stout has a 1.074 OG. Not a humble little stout!

Completely opaque, with a small dark tan head. Poor retention and minimal lacing.

A subtle coffee-like, roasty character to the aroma.

Rich malt and dark malt character, but finishes with a gentle malt sweetness. Lacks the roasted barley dry finish of the style. With the high gravity this beer is almost straddling the Stout/Imperial Stout fence.

Medium body and low carbonation. A bit creamy and definitely smooth. No alcohol warming

A very flavorful stout, but lacking the crispess expected of the style (before knowing it was a 1.074 stout)

This beer pours very dark and rich looking. Head is off white, and brown. Looks thin, but stays a long time, laced well.
Smell of roasted coffee and warmed chocolate, some dry hops and black cherries also reside here.
Taste is very good. Nice blend of coffee, chocolate, some anise, pepper and dark fruit. Hops come through to stop the insanity of flavors.
Drinks very well, I almost liked this better than the Storm King, yet that's a different style.

One of, if not the best beer at the brewery.

Reminiscent of FFF's XMas Porter's distinguished hoppiness. Perfectly hopped stout - bitter and roasty get to tango. Nice thick waves of malt.

Devilishly smooth without being abusively alcoholic, this rather hoppy dark brew from Mountain Sun is addictive and definitely growler-able. Somehow conveyed a nitro-mouthfeel sans the gas. Big splattering of lace.
