Mountain Sun Pub & Brewery

 

My wife and I went there on a warm summer Thursday night. We walked in and the place was packed. The noise level made it impossible to have a conversation, so we opted for the outside dining. This consisted of a bench along a railing with barstools.
Good tap list of 15-20 beers, several different styles. I opted for FYIPA, which was a good choice.
They make a great tempeh reuben.
Service was impeccable.

 

 

service here was really amazing. our waitress explained all the beers and offered us multiple tasting samples. It's more of a restaurant than a pure brewery, which is nice and their burgers were solid. On the other hand, the beers were not that great. lots of options, but all pretty average. I live in the area, so will definitely go again, but not for the beer.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

i have been a patron of the mountain sun/southern sun empire since they opened in 1993 and have been there as recently as last week. these guys have the model on lock. the open pubs slowly, in well thought out locations and they succeed every time out.
the mountain sun is way too crowded on any given day due to its location and small size and southern sun is often a better choice if you want to get a table with minimal wait or sit at the bar.
the vibe is mellow hippy no tvs good music
quality of beers is solid across the board with fyipa and colorado kind being my go to's
they have a large number of choices on any given day and a few guest taps as well.
service is solid waiters rotate and they all help out so i have never had bad service here
selction of beers is great and the february stout month is particularly fantastic in terms of variety
food is very solid pub fare
thank you mountain sun for keeping it real and a town that is increasingly fake!

 

 

I've been going to MS for going on 20 years and realized I'd neglected reviewing it. As the flagship of a beer/food empire now consisting of 6 locations, my patronage here has been the result of the quality of the beer and the experience. I appreciate their consistent devotion and excellent execution of British-style ales - the Illusion Dweller and the FYIPA are among my favorites - and find their food very satisfying and a good value. Service has been good, too, even when the Pearl Street location gets busy and there's a wait for to a place to land. I'll continue to go there when I'm in Boulder.

Beer was good but chicken sandwich was pink in middle - returned and replaced. To their credit no charge for the sandwich at all.
