The Superking reminds me more of an American barleywine than a double IPA. It has a rich candy like nose with a nice hop presence. The taste is also full of big fruity malts complimentd by citrus hops. It is a rich amber color with a tan head. Complex yet well balanced brew.

The Falling Rock had this as part of their barleywine month selections and noted it was a 2005. I wasn't familiar with this beer so I ordered it. The first thing I thought was "this tastes like a double Colorado kind ale". It had some barleywine characteristics but I kept wondering if it was a DIPA. I guess according to BA it is. Anyway, the color was a dark orange-brown. The head was white and creamy. The mouth feel was very creamy as well. The taste was hoppy and delicious. Overall, an excellent beer but maybe not a barleywine.

Had this on-tap at Mountain Sun brewery. Dark brown in color, very enticing appearance.
I think the aroma and flavor were very much like a barley-wine. The waiter couldn't describe the intended classification for this beer (which was my favorite of the 6 samples I tried). I'm pretty sure that it's a mistake to call this a double IPA. American barleywine sounds more appropriate. I think the maltiness came through more than the hops.
Whatever you call this, it was a very nice creation. Highly recommended!
