On tap at Vine Street Pub for stout month. Standard stout appearance: black. Aroma was mostly malt, no coconut whatsoever. Flavor was very smooth but absolutely no coconut. Mouthfeel was good and smooth but it was on nitro so that makes sense'. Honestly this wasn't bad but since I tasted no coconut at all I was fairly disappointed. Bummer.

a subtly genius brew. the pour is coffee black with an inch of quickly fading nitro fluff about the same color. the coconut is hard to pick up in the smell, as roasted barley and raw dark chocolate notes are much more powerful. the coconut does come through in the taste though, and its like a mix of coconut water sweetness and dried fleshy tropicality. there is a lot of bitterness from the dark malt, especially towards the finish, but the coconut mellows it, and makes this feel like vacation beer. gently sweet, not as lactose sugar heavy as some cream stouts, and the nitro tap gives it a nice feel. velvety texture with light carbonation and a full creamy body that slides right down the throat. id like to see the coconut aspect get dialed up a little, as its something that can never be outdone in anything for me. I love coconut, but I also respect this beer for staying in nice balance. a delicious pint!

This beer is brewed locally and served only at the time of Stout Month (Feb.). The first time I had the beer was two years ago and it quite literally opened my eyes to the possibilities of home brewing.

This is what I thought about the beer the first time:
The look is black with a short head that does not last long. The flavor is dark coffee and milk chocolate with strong overtones of coconut. There is a sweetness to the beer that helps the flavor but does not overwhelm.

In all, I could have had this beer every day for weeks if everyone in town hadn't heard about it and came in specifically to try the strange coconut beer. They sold out almost immediately and brewed a new batch. But this time it was much more bitter with a lingering aftertaste that left me wanting the previous batch. When questioned, the staff told me they added too much coconut the first time and corrected for the second batch. By this time I had told friends to go in and taste the beer, but they were all returning negative reports. Last year it made a comeback, but with the corrected recipe it was hardly worth writing a review about. I'll probably try it again just to see if they actually caught on and simply doubled the amounts to give the people what they want.

Near black with some brown. Tan head that produced good lace.

Sweet, but not overly sweet. Good malt structure with some definate coconut and vanilla.

Good solid stout with some sweet milky coconut and vanilla. No artificial flavoring which reallyt helps keep it balanced.

Medium body and carbonation suit the flavors well.

Very drinkable for a flavored beer. The coconut taste natural and is not out of place.
