On tap at Under the Sun for stout month. Typical stout appearance minus any sort of head whatsoever. Aroma was slightly roasted malt. Flavor was way too sweet like artificial sweeteners, Splenda, Nutrasweet, etc. I really couldn't believe how bad this was. It was like the worst sugar free gum in stout form, yuck.

A black pour during Stout Month (yippie!) at Vine Street Pub. Ruby highlights and a small collar of semi-thick off-brown head.
Roasty aroma with some black plum, dark cherry and liquorice. A bit sweet and a tinge of alcohol.
The roasted malt is more evident in the taste. Like toasted black bread. Semi-sweet in the middle. A sharp bite around the sides of the tongue with some overlay of black plum and mulberry. Some hints of earth and slight metallic on the end.
Pretty good drinking with the abv. Dry on the end. Nice

On tap at the Vine club, noted as higher alcohol, I undertsand 9%. Black, little small brown head, lacey. Coffee aroma. Hop bitterness throughout, a wine finish. Rich roast,a little chocolate, a bit burnt. Drinkable though not very drinkable. Carbonation right there. Would be great on cask. A bit of acid from the roast in the aftertaste.

One of six stouts we shared last night at the Vine Street Pub during Stout Month. Poured a rich black color with a good sized tan head. Aromas of dark fruit, light hops and roasted malt. On the palate this one was fairly full bodied, and drinkable, with dark chocolate, roasted malt and light coffee.

Left-over bottle from GABF judging (fall, 2009) given to me for my volunteer efforts. Consumed Thanksgiving, 2010. pours thick with a one-finger brown head over a pitch liquid. Smells roast, anise, chocolate, mild smoke, some alcohol. Blackberry and fig.
Tastes roast, black malt sour, mild smoke, blackberry, anise, and chocolate. The dry from the roast is well balanced by malt sweet and a sour cherry character that often comes with use of black patent. Alcohol comes across as a clean spicey zip in the finish. Thick in the mouth and the liquid carries fine roasty bits. Modest carbonation and decent drinkability.
