May 21st, 2016 - My second to last beer at today's gorgeous beer festival on a bright, San Diego day is the Othello from Barrel House. The nose kicks with a huge maple and smoky note, swaying side to side with an immovable burliness. And yet! The flavor is sour, and more like Duchesse de Bourgeone, but darker and pickled. This is a "tasty cakes" beer, as my friend suggests, and I agree, even as it keeps me guessing from nose to taste and back again.
