Druthers Brewing Co. "Golden Rule"
on tap @ Druthers Brewing Co., Albany, NY on 4 June 2016
Notes: Typical pilsner appearance. OK head retention but very good lacing. Limited aroma, mainly malt. There are some citrusy hops in the flavor though, and the rye is apparent as well. A solid bitterness balances is and it finishes dry with some residual grass, herbs, and spice. Very clean, well balanced, nicely rounded, and polished. It's really interesting in that they've brought in some unusual components but kept the general character of a pilsner present. That keeps your attention, and makes it a little more drinkable in that you're drawn back to it.

Note: Growler purchased locally; tap was advertised as "Golden Rule Pilsner," so I'm assuming this is the rye pilsner and not the Kolsch. . . .
A: Poured from the growler into a pilsner glass. Body is pale yellow with just a thin film of white head. Some bubbles rising to fortify it, but otherwise it appears a bit flat.
S: Florally and fruity. Surprisingly more fruity than anything.
T: Light cereal grain foundation, some fruitiness and then a bit of earthy spiciness that makes me think this is more likely the rye pilsner than the Golden Rule Kolsch. Finishes with a battle between the fruit and a note of earthy bitterness. Sweeter flavor ultimately prevails.
M: Light in heft, with a slightly oily or slick feel.
O: Decent. Interesting flavors, not your typical pilsner, that's for sure. Easy to drink though, going down well on a warm June day.
