A very nice juicy and hoppy NEIPA. A great hop flavor without the bite and a balanced juiciness. Taste is excellent and so is mouthfeel. Aroma is tropical and hops. Backwoods brews some really good beers. 42 IBUs Rated 2-26-2021

Backwoods' Doublecutt IIPA is a solid example of the style. It pours a light straw color, a 3-5 on the SRM scale. Some cloudiness was noticeable, particularly when light hits the drink. Surprisingly, here wasn't much head to it, but what was present stayed and left nice lacing as I drank.
Doubllecutt had a very light aroma, with little noticeable until it warmed. Even then, I only got light notes of citrus. The flavor was much more domineering. It started as a battle between sweet and bitter, with the bitter strongly building. It may have built to a fault; I had to stop for a water break due to hop fatigue. Before this, a honey feel/taste was present. As the hops really starting kicking in, citrus became dominant, with citric acid and orange peel being the standout flavors. As the ale warmed, the alcohol content became more potent.
Doublecutt was a very good DIPA that suffered a little from an overabundance of hop in the end. I'd certainly order it again, but probably in a smaller pour or with food.

Solid double IPA. Balanced hops and malt. Bitter and hints of pine in the flavor. Dark golden body. A standard IPA/DIPA from a local brewery. Fairly one note.

Grunt fill from Boise Co-op. Deep, clear golden body with tiny creamy head. Malty, grainy aroma, surprising for a DIPA. Piney hops linger in the background, elbowing their way up front at first taste. Slick body, hops hang around at finish, followed by some warmth deep in the gut.

On tap at the Growler Guys (PDX) the other day. I tried this side by side with several other IPA's/DIPA's at GG, and much to my surprise, this was the one I preferred. This is very well crafted DIPA, delivering a considerable amount of pine, light tropical fruit and dry citrus, on both the nose and the palate. The beer delivers plenty of flavor, and the finish was long and pretty bitter (in a good way). Alcohol is well integrated into the flavor profile; it's up there, you can tell that, but the beer is not heavy, cloying or tiresome on the palate.
Was very impressed by this effort. Branden (owner at GG) mentioned that other beers he's tried from Backwoods have not been all that great, and that this was the first beer from them that he agreed to put on tap. I can see why he agreed to carry this beer, as it's quite good. Would order this again in a heartbeat.

1/4" head, clear, amber color, a bit dark. Awesome smell. Citrus. Taste a bit of a letdown from aroma. Bitter upfront and a bit sour on finish. Smooth overall. Drinkable but you might only have one.
