A challenging beer to appreciate. First, it makes a poor visual presentation for a lager. The bright yellow body is tinged with fine haze. It's not clear in the lagered sense of it and I'm left wondering if it's too young, or was perhaps lagered at a warmer temperature. The complete lack of head or lace is also troubling.

And the punky marshmallow aroma is peculiar. There's no toasted grains or hop spice, not even a pronounced malt sweetness. This puts the beer's defining character in the hands of yeast esters, and they don't come across as clean or achieve the dry, crisp refreshment value of a lager. To my tastes, this summer seasonal didn't harbor any shortcomings in its production or service. It just seems like a weird recipe.
