It looks sort of like murky cranberry juice...nicely crimson with a pink head.

The smell is spicy with a bit of cherry, papaya, and banana.

On first sip, there's a quick malty-cherry flavour, followed fast by a sour tang that's quite nice...a hoppy finish follows.

The body seems rather thin at first...but it tends to get better as this one goes by.

I kind of liked this one, but it's not something I could drink every day.

Be well

Sampled on-tap at the '05 American Beer Fest.

Beer pours with a solid red body and a thin hazy pink head. I guess that many cherries will do that... The aroma was tart cherries, and fairly pleasant, with a definite edge to it. Taste, however, was sour, in more of a vinegar way than a lambick way. Other reviewers talk about a lingering cherriness, but I didn't get that, just a slightly tannic aftertase. I also didn't get any sweetness from this, just sourness. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't all that great, either.

For now, I'm adding this one to the "ill-conceived novelty flavored beer" file.

Growler filled at the Salem brewpub location.

Poured into an imperial pint glass, formed a 1/8" short-lived strawberry Quik-hued head over the clear cherry red brew. Head is down to a thin layer of bubbles quickly, and lacing is about average to good. Aroma is cherries, with a lambic-like sourness coming through even in the nose. Taste hits immediately with an all-permeating tart sourness, which fades to reveal a pleasing cherry flavor that lingers, even after swallowing. Mouthfeel is good, with the tartness and sweet cherry flavors complimenting each other, and drinkability is nice as well. Surprisingly thirst-quenching after an afternoon and evening of outside activities.

Lit off a couple M-80s with this one on 5/15/2005. 14-oz. goblet pour at the Fenway location.

Frothy, bubbling lava head with some chloroform stick. Blood red hue, so dark that it almost verges on black; looks like some haze and can’t tell if there is anything happening, whether the chest is rising or falling. Raspberry treacle (even though it’s obviously cherry), some baker’s chocolate, and bubble wrap on nose. Chalky milk shiver strangles the tongue while a marching band of cherry sweetness flays the lips, creating an oddly masochistic dichotomy; the sweetness ends up cranking through later and almost overwhelms everything else.

Not usually my style, but this is fairly good, though it could be tamed a little.
