Cool can label, a picture of half dome at Yosemite. Appearance bump.
Pours a full on amber color. I expected something lighter. 1/3" light beige head. The aroma is interesting, certainly Wakatu and Tettnang(?) hops weren't really around when this style came about. Doesn't quite smell all that caramel the color would lead you to believe, I think the hops eek out ahead of the malt in the nose. The unique yeast aspect is not captured here.
Taste, I dunno, I liked the beer, but it was like a malty pale ale as much if not moreso than a steam beer. Some of the light fruitiness of a yeast profile like this comes out alongside the unconventional hop taste and bitterness. Carbonation was good on it so that it didn't have a mouth feel like the appearance (sticky, heavy). Its worth checking out for the slightly unconventional take on an unconventional style yeast wise of beer. Had they stayed in business, I don't think this would have been a daily drinker, but I could go for one of these every now and then.

I didn't get any aroma but in all fairness the beer was second to last on my flight and no longer had any head. Caramel in color. Very clean and smooth beer with a slight hop bite to it. A little more hop forward than some of their other beers. In comparison to Anchor Steam it is much hoppier. It was hard to detect too much hop flavor but it tasted more on the Noble hop variety. I enjoyed this beer and was surprised it clocked in at 5.8% ABV
