Picked this up from the discount rack at Berkeley Bowl, its a sparse grouping. Pours an amber color, 1/3" white head. Looked malty for a pilsner. The aroma was all bittering hops, didn't get much in the way of aroma. Wish they did a date somewhere on this.

Taste, ooof, right off the bat, big miss. Massive bitterness, catty, even with the pronounced heavy malt bill on this, it just doesn't fit. There isn't much in the way of taste to the hoppiness, its just straight bitter and it binds with the high alcohol to create a super bitter and boozy one-two punch. I can see why this was only $2 per can in the aforementioned bin. At best you could say Loral and HB344 gave it a hearty herbal bitterness. Even on paper, the design of such an imperial pilsner doesn't speak to me, but in execution it sucks too, I mean shit, it could have at least tasted fresh like hops or something instead of just being hot bitterness.

It burns, the goggles do nothing.

Appearance - Pours crystal clear and bright orange amber in color with an off-white, near finger width head. Sub-par retention results in a mostly barren surface with a thin ring of suds encircling the outside of the glass. No lacing save a tiny spot or two.

Smell - Cereal grain sweetness stands out first, followed by some banana-like barnyard funk, herbal and apple-ish esters. Fair citrusy hops sit beneath.

Taste - Follows the nose. Sweet cereal grain met with some funk, herbal and fruity esters. Mild touches of citrus hit near the finish, delivering a sweet, fruity finish, and it lingers in the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel - Medium-bodied fair, bitey carbonation. Slick, easy drinker with a slightly dry finish.

Overall - Crazy hoppy? Hardly, and the Belgian-like funkiness leads me to believe they screwed up this beer. The finished product here isn't terrible by any means, but it fails to live up to the terse description found on the can (drinks more like a hoppy saison?), so it's hard to rate this higher than I did.
