Rating this after nearly a year on it, but it's quite thick, and dark. Rich chocolate and bourbon nose, and tastes exactly as it smells and looks. The beer has mellowed well since having it fresh. Well worth getting a bottle if you'd like to try their stouts.

" An Imperial Stout aged in rye and bourbon barrels. Rich and decadent with huge notes of chocolate, coffee, and dark fruit. Complemented by smooth vanilla tones from the barrel."

I got to try the base version early in 2015 and fell in love with the beer. I heard that they put some away in barrels and I have been anxiously awaiting ever since. Heist aged the base beer in Elijah Craig 12 year and Rittenhouse barrels and blended them back into what is now BA Cataclysm 2. Wow!!!!

The look is pitch black and oily....perfect!!

The nose is full of sweeeet milk hocolate and rich bourbon. Had I not known what I was smelling, i would have sworn I was smelling a Bourbon County.

The taste is similar to the nose but less sweet than I was expecting (which I really appreciate). While it has some expected sweetness at 14%, I was happy to find that I didnt have a sugar bomb in my hand.

The mouthfeel is rich, chewy, velvety and exactly what I want in a BA Stout. There is a itty bit of bourbon heat on the palate but definitely nothing more than what is expected for a 14% beer. We all know that will fade shortly and I look forward to opening a bottle in a couple of months. I totally expect a marshmallow bourbon masterpiece then.

Overall this is the best stout to ever come out of Charlotte and one of the best stouts to come out of the Southeast. Cheers!!
