A: Pours a thick viscous jet black in color with slightly heavier than moderate amounts of fine active visible carbonation rising quickly along the edges of the glass and faint dark chestnut brown + dark cola brown + garnet red colored highlights. The beer has a four finger tall fluffy cloud-like foamy dark tan head that slowly reduces to a large patch of thick film covering a little more than 90% of the surface of the beer and a medium thick ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate amounts of lacing are observed.
S: Moderate to strong aromas of roasted + chocolate + caramel + toasted malts with light to moderate amounts of caramel sweetness. That is followed by moderate aromas of vanilla + maple syrup along with a light to moderate aroma of coffee. Hints of earthy hops.
T: Upfront there are slightly stronger than moderate flavors of roasted + chocolate + caramel + toasted malts with light to moderate amounts of caramel sweetness. That is followed by light to moderate flavors of coffee along with light to moderate flavors of vanilla + moderate flavors of maple syrup with a light amount of associated sweetness. Finally there are hints of earthy hops. There is a light to moderate presence of roasty bitterness which lingers through the finish.
M: Medium to full bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Smooth.
O: Drinks pretty easily considering the strength with well hidden alcohol and a slightly lighter mouthfeel. Enjoyable with a nice presence of vanilla and maple syrup without being overly sweet.

Black color, 3 finger brown head. Takes a while to settle. Strong vanilla flavor. I get some sweetness, but I’m not sure if it’s necessarily from maple syrup or just a sweet malt. Structure is weak and doesn’t hold up to the flavors. Boozy and warming on the finish.

Appearance: Arrives espresso colored with a thin cap; streaky strands persist
Smell: Chocolate and maple syrup with a hint of coffee
Taste: Maple syrup forward with the chocolate building underneath; coffee emerges, after the swallow, to offset the sweetness but this is still a rather sweet stout
Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with moderate carbonation
Overall: Nice use of the maple here with some balance from the coffee but I would prefer a fuller body and more bitterness
