Received in a trade and shared with JLindros.

A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a nice dark brown almost black with a thin mocha head that fades quickly to leave light wisps. Great legs.

S - Aromas of massive peat and smoke. Little caramel but this utterly ruins the base beer in that it completely overpowers it. Really a shame.

T - Taste is similar to the nose, massive peat and smoke, little caramel and light chocolate. The barrel completely overpowers the base beer. Nothing much else going on.

M - Mouthfeel is lightly carbonated, thin bodied, alcohol hidden nicely.

O - Overall this was a super disappointing beer. I love the base beer and this barrel treatment utterly ruins it. A damn shame.

Thanks to rudzud
Pours a light fizzy head, super long legs, pitch black beer

Nose ridiculously Smokey, big Smokey peaty scotch, little dark choc cocoa and barrel notes, caramel and sweet candy, dark choc, but peat overpowers, but little of the decent characters as all Smokey peat destroys

Taste brings big Smokey whiskey, scotch peated smoke, metallic, chewy base malt, little cocoa dark choc notes, but all Smokey scotch.

Mouth is thicker chewy bod, lighter carb, warming tingly booze

Overall very poor choice of barrel

Smell: Really Smokey, umami, light coconut , milk chocolate, brown sugar. A hint of maple syrup. This is really Scotch Barrel forward on the nose.

Taste: Right Upfront you get those fimilar no rules tasting notes. Milk chocolate, brown sugar, vanilla a hint of maple syrup. Then it the mid palate is where the Scotch barrel really shines you get a beautiful smokiness, umami quality. That umami flavor carries into the finish where you get a little bit of booziness along with toasted coconut more brown sugar and cinnamon.

Feel: Medium body, a nice amount of carbonation that helps the beer. A fair amount of creaminess. This has a mouthfeel like a barrel aged central Waters beer.

Overall: They did a great job with this beer and how they used the Scotch barrels. You get that familiar no rules profile upfront, but in the mid palate is where the Scotch Barrel takes over. I prefer the regular, but this is World class and a great variant. Unique and different. Well still having the familiar no rules notes. This is less sweet and balanced. So if you think the regular version is to sweet try this. 99/100
