Thank you superspak for this
12 oz can poured into a teku

A- Black with a three finger mocha head.

S- Roasted malts, touch of chocolate, a little smoky, hints of marshmallows and graham crackers. Overall a pretty straight forward stout that has a hint of s’mores.

T- Roasted malts, a little smoky, chocolate, touch of marshmallow and graham cracker.

M- Smooth, medium body.

O- A tasty stout, straight forward. Doesn’t scream s’mores but does have some s’mores qualities.

CAN courtesy of Katelynn - thanks!

First impression:

Heavy, almost syrupy, gritty, thick, and sludgy sweet with scattered notes of chocolate (malt), heavy dark malt sweetness, and additive-redolent sweet notes. Not saccharine or cloying, but close - and definitely a dentist's nightmare.

It doesn't evoke s'mores, there are no overt flavours of graham cracker or marshmallow, the chocolate flavour isn't anything beyond ordinary chocolate malt, and it lacks any toastiness whatsoever. I think it's safe to say this doesn't quite deliver fully on the potential of its premise. Tends more towards the gimmick beer side of the spectrum.

Not a beer I'd want a sixer of, even if it was $10 USD. Too sweet and imbalanced, lacking a tight deliberate execution of flavour. The big fail here is it just doesn't taste like a s'more, and with its target flavour profile unachieved it crumbles. A lacklustre stout even disregarding the brewers' intended flavour profile...I'd sooner drink Sierra Nevada's much more widely available stout, not to mention superior regionally available expressions of the style. Who is buying this over Bell's Kalamazoo Stout, Deschutes' Obsidian Stout, et al.?

Disregarding the S'more gimmick, it's not a bad chocolate stout. A bit sweet and heavy, sure, but when served cold it's not bad.

12 ounce can into tulip glass, canned in 9/2019. Pours opaque dark brown/black color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky khaki head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Thick foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, marshmallow, toffee, vanilla, roasted nuts, graham cracker, toasted biscuit, and dark bread/crust; with lighter notes of dark fruit, smoke, char, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malts, chocolate, graham cracker, marshmallow, and light-moderate earthy hop notes; with big strength. Taste of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, marshmallow, toffee, vanilla, roasted nuts, graham cracker, toasted biscuit, and dark bread/crust; with lighter notes of dark fruit, smoke, char, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Light herbal, grassy, peppery, roast, charred bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, marshmallow, toffee, vanilla, roasted nuts, graham cracker, toasted biscuit, dark bread/crust, dark fruit, smoke, char, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts, chocolate, graham cracker, marshmallow, and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; with an awesome hop/roast bitter/sweet balance; and no cloying/acrid/astringent flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering hop/char bitterness. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/velvety/bready, and lightly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 7%. Overall this is an excellent flavored American stout. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts, chocolate, graham cracker, marshmallow, and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the mellowly bitter/drying finish; great soft/silky feel. Awesome balanced rich malts and flavorings; with nice earthy hop presence/balance. Not overly sweet/heavy from lingering dryness. A very enjoyable offering, and impressive style example as expected. Not overwhelming on any aspect.
