Thanks to RaphaelJenkins for sending variants of this beloved beer to my doorstep – though none have lived up the original to date. Let’s see if this 22 oz. bottle is up to the test. Split with my wife.
The pour it is black. The nose is sweet. Full stop. The subtleties & coconut from the original have been violently throttled by the syrup.
No Rules – Michigan Maple Syrup somehow manages to dumb down a fantastic base beer. Until this moment, I believe maple syrup made everything, including intercourse, better. Coconut? Vanished. Chocolate? Virtually unfindedable. Molasses? Not really, the syrup just adds to pile on the sweetness & smother everything else. Though the alcohol is also undetectable as well.
Really disappointing. The maple syrup addition overrides so much of what’s great about the base No Rules. Just pretty good, which is a huge step down.
