fashioned as a belgian style tripel, the tripper is back in the latest round of paradox releases. improved in some fashion, but it lacks one major element that the style must have to be a success in my eyes, and that is carbonation. a hazy blonde color, more golden maybe, this beer pours just about still. as such, it drinks too heavy, with residual sugar and alcohol showing more aggressively than the belgian yeast that is supposed to make this what it is. good use of the barrel though, some oak mellowness without any detectable infection, which is not always the case with these guys. some fruity esters as it swallows before the sugars set in, maybe this needs a little more time to carb up in the bottle and clean itself up, but as it stands now, its a poor representation of the style, even if the beer itself doesn't taste half bad. nothing is off or gross or weird, it just doesn't feel the way it should, and in a belgian style, its a huge missing component. still, a step in the right direction i think for these guys, the new hoptagram ipa is absolutely delicious.
