red red rye is a curiously named beer, being not that red, and not that rye forward, but its a pretty decent offering from paradox. hazy thick bodied brown amber colored beer with a nice off white head on it and not much of the yeast particulate we sometimes see in their beers. a nose more of belgian or high gravity yeast than rye malt, but its got some caramel sweetness, an amber ale grain profile really, and some nice oak character. the taste has some of the course textural rye, but does not have nearly as much of the rye spice flavor i was hoping for. as an amber or imperial amber, i like it pretty well. as a rye, not so successful. full body is pretty rich on it, and the yeast and oak contribute some character for sure. its still off a little, and its still missing a little something, but i was happy enough to drink a bottle of this. pretty well hidden alcohol strength too, but more rye would make this a winner.
