hoppy wine barrel aged sour beer here with grapefruit. for one, i think its really neat these guys are finally doing some kegs. i had this one on tap at klines in arvada, which is a really sweet place if you have yet to check it out. the beer is good, but it didnt really come alive for me. it looks and feels heavy in the glass, lacking refinement and carbonation, which is a real drag in a style like this. that said, i think the flavor here is really good, a lot cleaner and brighter than a lot off their other stuff, i just wish the mouthfeel followed suit. the grapefruit is far more juicy than it is bitter, and it fits in nicely with the dry hops, which have some of the same characteristics. the two are on the same pitch. there is a lot of malt to this too, wheaty and sort of richer feeling, but made light by the summery hops and fruit. sourness is moderate, and i get way more oak than wine, these barrels almost assuredly have been used for many beers before this one, its almost neutral at this point it seems. grapefruit and slight bitterness to finish, some wild funk, and the soothing wood. cool beer, but a few steps of refinement away from being excellent in my opinion. i hope they keep the kegs coming though...
