as much a hoppy amber for me as it is an american pale, or maybe an english american ipa hybrid, as it has a lot of malt to it, in body, sweetness, and in color, but its tasty beer just the same. it has a deep copper color to it, real dark for an ipa as i conceive of them, and the head is half an inch high, just off white, and slowly dissipating. it smells like an ipa, enough bittering hops for two beers, and a plethora of grain flavor, fresh and on the sweet side, but resolving in the end. i like a little meat to my ipa, and with this one over 7% abv, its evident that the residual sugars have all been fermented out of it, so it works well, especially in a cold and windy winter weather context, like is so often the case in northeast wyoming. some citrus to the hops, but it stays wintery all the way though, and the medium body seems fitting. i could drink three or four of these, but i would be drunk if i did, or at least on my way to it. a heck of a first impression from this little brewery that also happens to be maybe the undiscovered gem of the state. great times to be had here, so glad i popped in!

From my notes: Pours a cloudy colour of rust. Small but long lasting small head of foam. It smells of citrus with some pine, good malty backbone. It tastes hoppy...grapefruit and pine, bitterness tempered by that malty backbone. Medium body, lightish carbonation. A nice IPA reminiscent of Anchor’s Liberty Ale
