On tap at brewery:
Pours an enticing deep amber, half ruby/half deep golden. Let it rest, and there is still a thick collar of off-white head and a continent of surface coverage.
The wine is evident in the nose early. Later on the nose combines with the beer nature and seems a bit of the hybrid it is. Grape musk, red wine, tannins are all evident. Random guess: this would seem like a cheap wine to a wine afficianado on smell.
The taste is probably a little on the tart side for a wine. But the wine qualities are unavoidable. More fizzy? Yes. But not destractingly so. Red wine is evident, but grape skin and tannins come along. A "weak" (completely relative) red wine flavor comes across, mostly. The weakening note is beer, which on this site could be a good thing.
Really enjoyable hybrid. The style is chosen because it was the best option. This is a tad more wine than beer in flavor and impression, but is a very, very good hybrid.
