22oz brown bottle, sample from the brewery.
Pale copper hue, perfect clarity with a thin lacing on top. Obvious sourmash style brewing in the nose with a bit of wood and vinous quality from the red wine barrel aging. Kiss of Saison on the palate, sourmash and middling wood pull brings this beer around. Wasn't sure at first but sip after sip it starts to come around. For what it is it works for me, worthy a go for something completely different.

22 ounce bottle - Bullock's Wine & Spirits in Marietta, Georgia. Released 2016.
Appearance: Pours a lightly hazed, soft golden body with a smallish, receding, white head.
Smell: A middling twang of tartness atop touches of apple and clean lemon, a bit of spiciness and a backdrop of oaky vinousnicity.
Taste: A tart start, with some sourish straw-like hints. Fruity hints of citrus and apple juice precede the oaky, spicy, lightly tannic red wine. Closes out crisp and as dry as straw in a barn with a bit more of the puckering wine element riding out beyond the swallow.
Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Medium-plus carbonation.
Overall: Pretty good. For a saison (wine barrel aged or otherwise), I believe you could do a lot worse! A LOT worse!

Poured from the tap into a pint glass. The appearance is a slightly murky golden orange color with a small white head. The aroma is sour citrus, wine and grass. The taste is very heavy on the wine side and is rather tart. An interesting beer that I may need to try again to fully decide if I appreciated it the first time.

22oz bottle from Sprayberry Bottle Shop (Marietta, GA). 8.99. Bottled 01/2016. Served in my trusty Phish snifter.
Pours a hazy golden orange with just over a finger of white head. The foam recedes to a thin veneer and a fluffy collar, leaving some scattered lacing behind.
Smells funky and tart. Lemon, earthen funk, some grass, faint oak and a hint of red wine.
Tastes of tart overripe lemon pulp, wet hay, funky earth, clove, old wood, apple skins, a slightly acidic tang of faint red wine and vague vanilla. No detectable alcohol but this is an interesting mix that is pretty easy to drink.
Medium light body with abundant sharp carbonation. The aftertaste mixes lemon peel, funky apple and earthy old wet wood.
Southbound has a pretty darned good saison here in Clusterfiles. The tart, farmy base mixes well with tannic red wine and oak imparted by barrel aging. Worth a try if you have the opportunity.
