even though they also have a beer on the menu called "simple saison", i thought this one was the most simple and straightforward of the several saisons they had on their menu at this awesome little brewery. seems to me like white wheat malt, belgian pils malt, a cleaner french saison strain, and a very mild european old world hopping. not a lot of innovation in ingredients or processes here, but there doesnt need to be. its a light and bright and very clean saison, easy drinking and flavorful, perfect for summer crushing out on the patio. pale yellow to orange in color, rather clear for the style, with a good inch of white head on top. i never like saison being served in a pint glass, but it is what it is here. notes of green apple and white grape on the nose from the yeast, and a little more of a hoppy bent in the flavor, but still on the delicate side. good fresh wheat makes a nice impact here too, especially in a beer so low in alcohol. the first half is better than the last half, partially as a result of sun exposure out on the patio, which is unpreventable i think this time of year, but also because this yeast isnt too yummy when it warms up. overall though a nice balance crushable brew for the summertime.
