Serving: On tap, sampler flight
Served: 5 April 2014
Appearance: Exactly what you'd be looking for in an IPA. Crystal clear copper, amber color with a nice white head that sticks around even in the sampler glass.
Smell: Big notes of fruity and floral hoppiness. Juicy fresh.
Taste: Wow, is this one good. A nice malt backbone is definitely present in this beer and gives some nice sweetness to the juicy, fresh, assertive floral hops. For an IPA, this brew has nice "balance"- it's fresh and hoppy with out being abrasive, and its malts are there just enough to provide a bigger backbone than an APA but not big enough to step into syrupy DIPA territory.
Mouthfeel: Outstanding for the style, exactly what you're looking for.
Overall: Easily Function's best brew, and possibly one of the best IPAs available from Bloomington area brewers. A must try if you like IPA and are in town.
