In 1861, William Heising began a brewery and saloon at the old “Minnesota House,” which stood on the northwest corner of Fifth and Bush Streets in Red Wing. His successor, a German named Adolf Remmler, led the brewery to become one of the two prominent beer manufacturers in Red Wing until Prohibition. We proudly re-introduce the original 1896 recipe of the brewery’s flagship brand – Remmler’s Royal Brew. Back in the day, this beer was greatly enjoyed by those who thirsted for something strong and flavorful, and we believe that it is time, once again, for Remmler’s Royal Brew to take its place as a Red Wing favorite.
Brewmaster's Notes: Historic 1896 recipe from Red Wing; copper color with a pleasant maltiness.

Look: Slightly hazy dark amber. Two fingers of foamy white head with excellent retention.
Smell: Toasted biscuity malt, light piney hops, lemon peel.
Taste: Floral, slightly soapy hop bitterness with only a mild hop flavor. Little noticeable malt.
Mouthfeel: Full, chewy body with good carbonation.
Overall: Needs some more flavor past the hop bitterness, but an 1896 recipe isn’t exactly the most tuned!

Draught @ brewery: This one pours a hazy, lighter amber color. It has a bit of an off-white head, but left minimal lacing. It has a lighter but good nose. Some malts and earthy hops, but no real sweetness. The taste is good. Milder taste, a limited sweetness. Some hop bitterness, malts, grains and faint fruits. A good throwback style.
