This Marzen-style lager starts with a base of Austrian & German malts, with some kilned malts thrown in, providing a round, malty sweetness on the front of the palate & a dry, slightly hoppy finish.

From Beer Drop, canned July 29th 2025.

It pours a mostly clear gold with over a finger of foam. Retention and lacing are fine.

The smell is bread and caramel malt, some mild bitter notes of grass, hint of nuttiness.

Taste is bread, caramel malt, some grassy and a bit spicy hop bitterness. Tasting very good.

Mouthfeel is just fine, I would drink this again. Very good Marzen style Oktoberfest.

From the small can, it pours a clear darker amber color with a modest, short lasting, white head. Lacing. The nose gets a bready, malty scent with some citrus, per a friend. The mouth gets a dose of harsh caramel and then bready malt. It leaves a modest, slightly bitter aftertaste.

Toasted toffee on the flavor...some bready notes...earthy hops....and a bit of a light nutty impression as well.

Nice and malty but with a good balance from the earthy hops...I find this quite enjoyable. It's a little off the standard marzen path with a little more of a toffee like maltiness but overall its not drastically than most in this style. This has some character and I like how the flavor comes across.

Burnt orange in color...good clarity...perfect carbonation and a nice drinkable medium body

The pour is a dark copper color with a moderate amount of carbonation. The taste is malty, sweet, cedar, biscuity, along with some big caramel notes. cheers! B

Mostly clear amber brown body with a beige head and thick lacing. Smells strongly of toasted caramel malt with brown bread yeast and a hint of rubber. Taste has earth hops added in a way that is noticeable but I wouldn’t call it hoppy, toasted caramel malt with a slight twinge of rubber in the background of the finish. Feel is malty with thicker yeast, no hops really here but simpler . Rubber distraction brings this down

12oz can purchased from the fridge as part of a mix-a-six pack for $12.99. This is from last year, so it's probably around 14 months old.

Look: It has a nice deep copper color. It's actually bordering on amber color. There is a very slight haze. There was a finger of brownish head that dissipated to almost nothing.

Smell: Nice malty nose reminiscent of brown bread and some floral notes. A bit fruity with notes of cherries and a mild cocoa note. Nutty, crisp, and clean.

Taste: Pretty tasty. It's very smooth and easy to drink. Up front, it has a bit of acidity and a bready, malty profile. The finish has a balanced earthy bitterness that works well to complement the maltiness.

Feel: Nicely carbonated. The carbonation is soft yet effervescent. Very pleasant.

Overall: Even though this probably would have been better if it was consumed fresher, it's still pretty good now. It is so easy to drink, it's super crushable. I think that this is the first Sloop lager that I have had. They seem to know what they are doing.

12 ounce, undated can.

Pours out on the darker edge of amber, with about a medium level of haze. Modest cap and leaving ample thicker strands of lacing.

Bold nose of darker malts, nuts and a hint of some fall spicing.

Respectable O Fest, but fairly uninspiring ...on the palate its more nutty and maple infused malts....

This is a middle of the pack marzen. Not bad by any stretch of the imagination, but probably not worth any special attention out of all the oktoberfest beers out there. But if you're a sloop fan, go for it.

Translucent orange-amber, with not-quite one finger of light tan head.

Smells of toffee, light caramel, and brown bread. Slight fruitiness and burnt sugar after the head fades.

Taste is brown bread crust, light toffee, caramel, with some spicy notes near finish. Light bitterness.

Feel is medium , with moderate, very, very fine, sharp carbonation bite. Feels heavier than the 5.5% abv would lead one to expect.

Overall, a mediocre Oktoberfest. Feels heavy for the style, with the flavor not quite on-point. Not unpleasant, just not anything I'd want to revisit, with so many better options readily available. Glad I only got a single.

This one pours a dark-ish amber, with a small head, and lots of lacing.

This doesn’t smell like a whole lot, with some sweet breadiness and that’s about it.

This is pretty uninspiring, as the style goes. It’s basically just another vaguely malty and caramelly American version of this style that basically just tastes like an amber ale.

This is light bodied, drinkable enough, but unexciting.

Sloop has really slipped off the map lately.

12 oz can poured into .5L stein. Pours pretty clear amber with a slightly off-white head which falls to a very thin cap. Sits really still in the class with no carbonation bubbles popping up. Smell is fresh baked bread, malt. Taste is very malty, bready, sweeter to start then a bit of bitterness in the middle. Some herbal, earthy hops kick in at the end, but malt dominates. Finish is pretty clean. Feel is light to medium, a zip of carbonation up front. Overall, good beer but not one I'd run back to often.

Tasted in Oct. 2022 on draft. This is a fine tasting beer with the look and malt body just right for an oktoberfest beer. It is a little too bitter for a fest beer, but, to me, the hoppy character is just added goodness. Rated just above 4 after downrating a shade for being slightly out of style.

Sloop Brewing "Oktoberfest"
12 fl. oz. can "H CANNED ON 06/21/22 BATCH#1616" and sampled on 10/07/22
$2 @ Acme #2762, Philadelphia, PA

Notes via stream of consciousness: It's poured a hazy copper colored body with golden highlights at the base of the glass beneath a finger's width of off-white foam. In the nose it's malty, bready, toasty, and lightly fruity. The flavor follows. It's quite toasty, bready, and also fairly fruity from the Vienna malt. The bitterness is median leaving the sweetish malt to shine upfront but then drying it out in the finish. In the mouth it's medium bodied and gently crisp. All in all it's a fairly basic, exactly what you'd expect kind of Oktoberfest Märzen that's got a little more character than some, and a great balance. Very nice.

A: Poured from the can into a V-shaped, wide-mouth glass that's kind of like a shorter, stubbier version of a pilsner glass. Body is coppery-amber with a 1+ finger of khaki-colored, dense-foamy head on top. Looks good on the pour - and nice lace left behind after the sipping commences.

S: Good nose for the style: modest toasted wheat bread and wheat crackers, along with a touch of caramel malt.

T: Follows the nose, with toasted brown bread, caramel & brown sugar, and a hint of nuttiness. Finishes with a modestly dry bitterness - just enough to provide a bit of balance. But the predominant impression is on the sweeter side.

M: Appropriate for the style, call it light in heft, carbonation is modest.

O: A solid Marzen/Oktoberfest. Hits the spot on this cooler Fall-type day in upstate NY.
