Sloop Brewing "Interstellar Burst"
16 fl. oz. can without production codes or freshness dating
Notes via stream of consciousness: This is the last can out of my 4-pack. I almost didn't bother writing this because I just enjoy the beer so much that it's kind of a hassle but here we go. A standard pour brings up a thumb's width of white foam atop a cloudy golden body. It looks kind of like a hefeweizen although the head is different. It's boldly aromatic and I can smell it at arm's length. I'm getting a lot of berries, lemon-lime, resins, and a melange of tropical fruits. The flavor is fuller and the notes are much clearer including gooseberry, white grape, pine, resins, lemon-lime, mango, papaya, red berries, grapefruit, rosemary, crushed granite, tangerine, 'spiciness', basil, flowers, grass, and earth. There's more there I'm sure, but I think you get the idea. A median bitterness and some "hop burn" balance it and it finishes gently spicy, resinous, grassy, floral, earthy, and mineralish. The mouthfeel is just as smooth as you'd expect from a beer with so many extra proteins, and it's medium-light in body. What's the ABV on this, 6.5%? Yeah, that seems about right. The head has dwindled down to a very thin but still solid surface covering at this point, and the lacing left behind is quite good. The brewers at Sloop know how to make New England IPAs and this one is no exception. I like that it comes across like a cross between one of the sweeter and berry-like NEIPAs and a more bitter West COast IPA. Highly recommended.
