Pivovar U tří růží
Klášterní Special No.2 Limitovaná Edice
On tap, 3,L glass for 86 Kč (,75L glass is 295 Kč)
31-12-2013 (New Year's Eve!)
From the menu - "Special extra strong monastic dark beer from our series of monastic specials. Beer is exceptional with his sweet and hop taste. Gr24%, alc.9.0%"
Notes:
++ (indicates very, very good).
Very hazy, dark walnut brown. Orange-ruby highlights. "Vanilla"-tan head. Rocky. Super-excellent retention and lacing.
Aroma: Dark fruit wrapped in sweet dough and covered in sugar.
Flavor: Sweet malt. Caramel. Plum. Apple. Spiciness from either yeast or alcohol or both. Herbal hops in flavor and finish... leafy + earthy. Underlying bitterness is solid but only makes a firm appearance as it's floating in so much sugary malt. Still, it's not sticky in the finish, which is kind of amazing.
Body: Very full bodied. Very fine, seemingly natural carbonation is moderate.
Overall: More than a Dubbel. Fuller, stronger. Malty. I wonder if they were thinking this would ferment out more (?). Really special. Enticing. The wife ordered one after tasting it which surprised me. Absolutely recommend, but to what point? - limited.
