Bottle from the West Loop Whole Foods, where else? Served in a New Belgium tulip.
A - Pours with a generous white foam that settles to a thin cap, thicker collar, and specks of lace. Transparent dark orange body.
S - Smell is initially a blast of C hops, followed by a caramel and biscuit malt backbone. This is old school pale ale all the way in terms of balance and malt. Mix of floral, earthy, and citrus rind hop flavors.
T - Taste isn't quite as good, as there's a surprising bitterness that seems out of character for a 5.5% pale ale. Otherwise it's a similar blend of floral and citrus hops over a honey-drizzled biscuit malt base; malt is a bit stronger here relative to the hop flavor.
M - Medium body, toasty texture, dry finish with some lingering hop oils and resins. No perceptible alcohol.
D - Easy drinking pale ale. Not super unique or exciting, but for the price it's a good value. Would have been cooler if each Whole Foods had a unique hop rather than a blend of older favorites.
