12 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 7/28/2017. Pours slightly hazy medium orange/amber color with 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy off white head with great retention, that reduces to a large cap that lasts. Thick soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big tangerine, grapefruit, peach, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, mango, melon, lemon zest, orange peel, light pepper, pine, honey, toasted biscuit, light caramel, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/tropical/pine hops and moderate dark/bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big tangerine, grapefruit, peach, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, mango, melon, lemon zest, orange peel, light pepper, pine, honey, toasted biscuit, light caramel, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Lingering notes of tangerine, grapefruit, peach, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, mango, melon, lemon/orange peel citrus rind, pepper, pine, honey, toasted biscuit, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/pine hops and moderate dark/bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and minimal lingering hop astringency after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready/grainy/sticky, and lightly resinous/rindy balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 7%. Overall this is an excellent IPA! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/pine hops and moderate dark/bready malt flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the modestly bitter/drying finish. Very Midwest feeling IPA all around, never overly aggressive. Very juicy, vibrant, and lightly dank hops; with a balancing bready malt body, and no residual sweetness. A very enjoyable offering.

Appearance is a crystal clear almost amber orange color. Thick white head dissipates steadily leaving tons of sticky white lacing.

Smell is simcoe forward to my nose - I get a rather vegetal bitter aroma with the traditional simcoe notes including some cat pee. Hints of citra also come through, but the simcoe reigns here.

Taste seems to be a bit watery overall with the hops coming through strong. The malt is there but seems to be weak giving the impression of a hop forward beer that seems watery in its flavor. Lingering bitter aftertaste with some pine and citrus notes. Dry finish. Its a pretty simple classic flavor profile, but its not a great one.

Feel is on the light side. Medium carbonation. Dry finish.

Overall this is an alright IPA - classic in profile but only an average at best execution of the style.

On tap at the brewery this beer comes across very good. smaller head with a nice lacing staring me down with a semi west coast aroma. Light pine mixes well with ?, Light fruit, maybe tangerine, whatever it is exactly I don't care and I like it. The taste loses a bit of it, but i still liked it a bunch.

Doing my research ahead of time (I have a meet 'n greet at Begyle later this month), I got this IPA and had it with Indian take-out. It went well enough with that pretty spicy food (IPAs usually do.) In particular, the citrus hops seem to me to go well with tropical cuisines.
But I saved some ale for the post-spicy food test when the palate was clear, and the hops are a bit too clingy. I may have this again, but only with spicy food.
