Served in a Gale Sayers shaker pint glass.
It's been a while since the Original Kvass Kick made another stop, so a new Russian kvass is just what the drinker ordered. Rather than the 2-Liter plastic job, I opted for the single-Liter glass offering. This stuff pours a clear sunset amber topped by a finger of relatively short-lived off-white foam. The nose comprises pumpernickel, light fennel, and maple syrup. The taste brings in more of the same, though the pumpernickel is now more rye-like, and a vague green apple hint lies in the background, hidden amidst the breadiness. The body is a light medium, with a lightly fizzy carbonation and a slick feel. Overall, this was actually a pretty enjoyable kvass, one that doesn't just go for the bready jugular and cola us to death. Not bad.

Poured from 2 liter plastic bottle into a dimpled mug.
Appearance: rich dark brown hue with a bit of haze to the body and no head at all. Frankly, I like a little murk to my kvass.
Smell: rich, bready aroma with a light rye spiciness. Relatively dry-smelling for a kvass, without all the molasses and fruit that some varieties have. This has a very natural, authentic air about it.
Taste: a little bit sweeter than the aroma and the bready flavor isn't as rich. There's some raisin flavor here and a tiny hint of tartness. Not bad, but not especially outstanding.
Mouthfeel: light body with minimal carbonation. Run of the mill for the style.
Overall: a refreshing and tasty kvass. I would have this again.
