This one's a blast from the past. With some updated flavours that are sure to deliver. Our Horchata Porter is a chocolatey, dark-ruby coloured Porter. Brewed with cinnamon and vanilla to give it a delicious, sweet finish. You're either in, or you're in the way. That's what we say.

473 mL can from the LCBO, included in Silversmith's Winter Mix Pack; dated Oct 1 2025 and served slightly chilled.
Pours an ebony black hue with ruby red-coloured highlights. Just over an inch of dense, creamy, beige-coloured head floats atop, melting away over the next five minutes, give or take. It leaves behind a full coat of lace, with a tight collar and patchy cap lingering on the surface; looks great. The aroma is mildly spicy, with notes of cinnamon, cacao nibs and vanilla; sweet milk chocolate with a touch of roastiness.
A decent-tasting sweet porter with a spicy kick at the finish. Milk chocolate, cacao, roasted malts and oat sweetness come through early on, with vanilla pushing through by mid-sip. Bittersweet baker's chocolate, cinnamon and roasted malts round out the back end; chocolate, cinnamon and vanilla carry on into a persistent aftertaste. Medium-full in body, with gentle carbonation that rolls softly along the tongue; very smooth, fulfilling mouthfeel that might be this brew's strongest asset. More drinkable than expected for a spiced beer.
Final Grade: 3.85, a B+. Silversmith's Horchata Porter isn't perfect, but the gimmick is well-rendered, particularly with regard to that smooth, borderline creamy mouthfeel. Neither the vanilla nor the cinnamon are overused - they're more complementary than pivotal, jiving exquisitely well with the chocolatey flavours of the base porter. It's not a beer that I necessarily need to drink on a regular basis, but as a winter seasonal I think it's pretty darn nice.

At my lady Pamela's house; canned and chilled, 473mL in a pint glass. From Small Batch Dispatch's February curation. Canned November 7/25. My 7th beer from the Virgil, Ontario brewery, and 2nd for 2026. Ridiculously embraced by Sundae the cat...
